Jacques Cartier sailed to the New World in 1534 in search of a North western passage or route to reach Asia. He was also given the additional job of searching islands and places that had huige amount of gold as well as spices. This voyage of Jacques Cartier was commissioned by the King Francis I of France. Cartier did not gain much, but he brought 2 native Americans which he found while searching the St. Lawrence Bay for the king.
