Why did the economy of South Carolina suffer during the War of 1812?

    I believe the reason why the economy of South Carolina suffer significantly during the war of 1812 was due to the lack operating of financial by Federal government. Although South Carolina did managed to raise a half million dollars for self defense, that amount could not sustain a war that lasted more than three years.
