At the time of the Civil War, what did Florida have in common with the Maryland? Both states were led by planters with an economic interest in slavery. President Lincoln suspended habeas corpus in both states. The majority of farmers in both states had secret sympathies to the Union. The two states saw the bloodiest battles of the war.
