Draw two parallel lines AB and DE. Connect A to D and B to E. Label the intersection of the two lines as C. Now, two triangles are formed: triangle ABC and DEC. It can be proven that angle A and angle D are vertical angles and are, therefore, equal. The same can be done to vertical angles E and B. This means that two angles of each triangle are the same, thus making them similar triangles.
