Andrew is trying to create a number puzzle for his younger sister to solve. He challenges his sister to find the mustery number. when 4 is subtracted from half a number the result is 5. The equation to represent the mystery number is 1/2m - 4 =. Andrews sister tries to guess the mustery number. Her first gues is 30. Is she correct? why or why not? What is the correct answer?

    She is not correct b/c if you solve the problem the mystery number is 18.

    1/2m-4=5

    +4 + 4

    1/2m=9 divide 9 by 1/3

    m=18

    You can check by replacing the m with 18 in the original equation and it will equal to 5.
