A store is having a 1/3-off sale. You want to buy a jacket that originally cost $60. What is the sale price of the jacket?

    Do a proportion

    1/3 = x/60

    Cross multiply and divide

    1 x 60 = 60 and 60 divided by 3 is 20

    So you get $20 off

    60-20 = 40

    Answer is $40
