In this case, use variables to represent the numbers, Fortunately, they are all in terms of the smaller number. So. let ... x = small number (x+3) = middle number 2x = large number If the sum is 75, then all of the numbers added together must equal this. So ... x + (x+3) + 2x = 75 4x + 3 = 75 4x = 72 x = 18 After we find x, we can conclude that ... Smaller number = 18 Middle number = 21 Large number = 36
