    6 (x - 1) = 9 (x + 2) ... first, we distribute thru the parenthesis

    6x - 6 = 9x + 18 ... subtract 9x from both sides, add 6 to both sides

    6x - 9x = 18 + 6 ... simplify

    -3x = 24 ... divide both sides by - 3

    x = - 24/3

    x = - 8 <==
