While returning to the glider port, Laura descended at a rate of 380 feet per second for 3 minutes. Calculate her change in altitude.

I don't know whether to do - 380 x 3, or a positive 380.

    To do this, descending would be decreasing, so use a negative sign. Then, calculate how many seconds are in 3 minutes: 3 X 60 = 180. Now, you multiply. - 380 X 180 = - 68400.

    So therefore, in three minutes, Laura would've descended 68400 feet.

    This means that the change in altitude is - 68400 feet.
