What would the value of x be? 4x-1=4x-7 This was on my homework and I know how to do these but this doesn't make sense because you are taking the same value (x) times the same number and then doing something different to it on each side so it will never be equal (I think) but maybe someone knows how to do this.

    4x - 1 = 4x - 7

    - 1 = 4x - 4x - 7

    - 1 ≠ - 7

    0 ≠ - 6

    If x = nothing (has no value) and the simplified equation is not true, then there are no solutions. Following simple mathematical rules.

    4x-1=4x-7

    Subtract 4x and add 1 on both sides

    X = - 6
