Simplify (-12a^2b^-6) ^2

my teacher told me the answer (144a^4b^12) was wrong ...

    So you distribute the two into each variable to get - 12^2a^4b^-12, which reduces to (144a^4) / (b^12). You were right but forgot to add the negative to the 12
