n = 8
Why?
Firstly, distribute the numbers into the brackets. Make sure to distribute the negative and positive signs as well.
-> - 6n + 36 + 7n - 28 = 16
Now, place all the n terms on one side of the equals sign and the numbers on the other. I'll be putting the n terms on the left for simplicity. Make sure to switch the signs when transporting a number to the other side of the equals sign.
-> - 6n + 7n = 16 - 36 + 28
Simplify both sides to one term each.
-> n = 8
Therefore, n = 8.
Check:
Plug it into our equation to check.
16 = - 6 (8 - 6) + 7 (8 - 4)
16 = - 48 + 36 + 56 - 28
16 = 16
This means I am correct. n = 8.
