The perimeter is the total distance around the sides of a 2 dimensional shape. To calculate a perimeter, add up all the side lengths around the shape
Example:
2 by 5 rectangle
2 of the sides are 2 long
2 of the sides are 5 long
Add up the measures:
2 + 2 + 5 + 5 = 14
perimeter is 14
