Tickets were sold at a school play. Adult tickets cost $4 and child tickets cost $2. They sold 930 tickets that day and they took in $2670. Write and solve a system of equations to represent the situation.

    a + c = 930 → (1)

    4a + 2c = 2670 → (2)

    Multiply (1) by - 2 to eliminate the term in c when added to (2)

    - 2a - 2c = - 1860 → (3)

    Add (2) and (3) term by term

    2a = 810 (divide both sides by 2)

    a = 405

    Substitute a = 405 into (1) and solve for c

    405 + c = 930 (subtract 405 from both sides)

    c = 525

    That is 405 adult and 525 children's tickets were sold
