    x = 2 y = - 1

    Step-by-step explanation:

    let y = 4x - 9 ... eqn 1

    y = x - 3 ... eqn 2

    substitute for y = x - 3 in eqn 1

    we have,

    y = 4x - 9 ... eqn 1

    i. e

    x - 3 = 4x - 9

    collect the like terms

    -3 + 9 = 4x - x

    6 = 3x

    divie both sides by 3

    x = 2

    now put x = 2 in equation (2)

    from

    y = x - 3 ... eqn 2

    y = 2 - 3

    y = - 1

    therefore x = 2 y = - 1
