The distributive property states, a (b + c) = ab + ac. Normally, we would simplify the values inside the parentheses first, and then multiply, but since these two values are not alike terms, we would need to use the distributive property.
-1/6 (6y + 7) is also equal to - 1/6 (6y) + - 1/6 (7), so with that, we can simplify the expression.
-1/6 (6y) + - 1/6 (7) can be simplified to - y + - 7/6.
Therefore, using the distributive property, the answer is - y - 7/6.
