    There were 60 items for sale at the bake sale.

    Step-by-step explanation:

    Number of item sold on first day = 16

    Number of items sold on second day = 28

    Number of items sold on last or third day = 12

    Number of items not sold = 4

    Total number of items = T

    T = 16 + 28 + 12 + 4 = 60

    There were 60 items for sale at the bake sale.
