Subtract 1 from both sides
3 - 1 = - 2x
Simplify 3 - 1 to 2
2 = - 2x
Divide both sides by - 2
-1 = x
Switch sides
x = - 1

First you get the - 2x by it self, so you minis 1 to 3
So now you have
2=-2x
Now you divide them 2 divided by - 2
So you get - 1
