A semi-circle sits on top of a rectangle to form the figure below. Find its area and perimeter. Use 3.14 for.

    For perimeter, find the of the semi-circle and add it to three lengths of the rectangle (one side of the rectangle is not exposed because of the semi circle).

    P = πd/2 + 4 + 4 + 4

    = π (4) / 2 + 4 + 4 + 4

    = 12.56/2 + 4 + 4 + 4

    = 6.28 + 4 + 4 + 4

    = 18.28in

    Therefore, the perimeter is 18.28in.

    For area, calculate the areas of both shapes separately then add them together.

    A1 = πr^2

    = π (2) ^2

    = π (4)

    = 12.56in2

    A2 = lw

    = (4) (4)

    = 16in2

    A = A1 + A2

    = 12.56 + 16

    = 28.56in2

    Therefore, the area is 28.56in2 (inches squared).
