move + 5 to the other side
sign changes from + 5 to - 5
-7x+5-5 = 40-5
-7x = 35
divide by - 7 for both sides
-7x/-7 = 35/-7
x = - 5
Answer : x=-5

X would equal - 5, because you move the constant to the right, subtract the numbers then divide both sides by 7.
