What's the least number?

A barrel of candies can be shared equally (without cutting any pieces) among five, six, or eleven children. What is the least number of candies the barrel can contain?

    A couple of questions first:

    Are we going to divide the candy box equally between those 2,3 or 7 person at one event - (at the same time) ?

    Are there 12 persons to take into consideration and that each gets the same number of candy pieces?

    Are the 3 persons (and the other 2 as well) - different individuals from those who are the 7 referred to. If not then we have to consider 2 more persons.

    So does the equal division of candy pieces have to be made between a minimum of 7, 10 or 12 individuals (2+3+7) ?

    The lowest common denominator is going to be 42. (2 x 3 x 7) Therefore seven persons would each get 6 pieces.)

    But if the 2 and 3 people are diffèrent persons than the 7, they will get an equal share ie. 6 pieces each, as well!

    2 x 6 = 12

    3 x 6 = 18

    7 x 6 = 42

    So, the box would have to contain at least 72 pieces of candy / / chocolates or 6 dozens. And every one of the 12 would be happy with his 6 chocolates.
