Leah is three times older than her cousin. If they add their ages together, they get 12. Write an equation to represent the word problem and solve the equation and how old is Leah and her cousin?

    Leah would be 9 and her cousin would be 3.

    The equation would be:

    3x = y

    x + y = 12

    So to solve I had to find out what two numbers would add to be 12, and to check if it was correct i multiplied 3 by x (The cousin's age)
