    (x, y) → ( - 4, - 3)

    given the 2 equations

    - 7x + 5y = 13 → (1)

    2x - 5y = 7 → (2)

    Adding the equations will eliminate the term in y

    (1) + (2) term by term gives

    ( - 7x + 2x) + (5y - 5y) = (13 + 7)

    - 5x = 20 (divide both sides by - 5)

    x = - 4

    substitute into either of the 2 equations and solve for y

    (2) → - 8 - 5y = 7 (add 8 to both sides)

    - 5y = 15 (divide both sides by - 5)

    y = - 3

    solution is (x, y) → ( - 4, - 3)
