The access code for a car's security system consists of five digits. the first digit cannot be 1 and the last digit must be even. how many different codes are available?

    There are 10 single digit numbers that can be used for each digit.

    The first digit cannot be 1, so that leaves 9 other possibilities.

    The last digit must be even, so it can be 0, 2, 4,6, 8 (5 possibilities).

    The 3 middle numbers can be any digit (10 numbers)

    To find total combinations multiply all the possible numbers for each digit:

    9 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 5 = 45,000 possibilities.
