First of all, Jamie's room is really weird. Second of all, let's solve. Since the formula for the area of a circle is (pi) r^2, and Jamie's room is exactly half of that, the area for a semicircle would be (1/2) (pi) r^2. The straight wall is the diameter, so half of the diameter would be the radius. Half of 14 is 7. Now, you rewrite the equation and substitute the values of the variables. The new equation (if you're using 3.14 for pi) is (1/2) (3.14) (7^2), or (1/2) (3.14) (49). From here you can solve, so the answer would be 76.93. Jamie needs 76.93 square feet of carpet.
