I'm in algebra 1 and my problem is ... two times the difference of a number decreased by five is fourteen. How can i make that into an equation

    -Decreased by five-

    This means, that the number is being subtracted by 5.

    -The number-

    This is your variable, usually the letter x.

    -Two times the difference-

    This means that the number 2, will multiply by the numbers the difference is centered around.

    -Is fourteen-

    Is means equals, so this is saying, = 14

    Your answer would be:

    2 (5 - x) = 14
