How do you write and solve equation with an unknown number?

    You have to isolate the variable using inverse operations in order to get it alone. Example: x+3=5

    Subtract 3 on both sides since you are adding 3, and subtraction is the opposite of addition.

    x=2 is your answer. If you check and plug it in, you will see that it is a correct equation.
