Linda is planting pink tulips in a rectangular flower bed that is 2 feet longer than it is wide. She plans to surround the tulips with a border of daffodils that is 2 feet wide. If the total area of the garden is 224 square feet and she plants 36 daffodils per square foot, then how many daffodils does she need?

    So the tulip garden is 16x14. Add the 2ft from the daffodils all the way around and your total sq ft equals 288. Now, subtract the total-the tulips (288-224) and get 64 sq ft for the daffodil border. 64x36 = 2304 daffodils in the entire border
