3y+1=8y+16
You must get "y" by itself
Minus 3y from each side
3y-3y+1=8y-3y+16
1=5y+16
Minus 16 from each side
1-16=5y+16-16
-15=5y
Divide - 15 by 5y
-15:5y=-3y
y=-3
