They need to have a common denominator. We can multiply the denominators by itself and see if we could half it and if they would still be related.

    10*3=30

This is the lowest common denominator. For it to be the same problem, we to make the fractions equal with a denominator of 30.

    Let's turn them improper.

    43/10

Let's multiply the top and botom my 3.

    129/30

Let's do the same for 2 1/3 except multiply the top and bottom by 10.

    7/3=70/30

    Let's solve.

    129+70=199

The answer is 199/30, but we can simplify it. Since 199 is prime, we cant divide the top and bottom but we can turn it into a mixed number.

    199:30=6 R 19

    6 19/30 is the sum.
