The length of a rectangle is twice its width. The perimeter of the rectangle is 24 inches. Write a system of equations in 2 variables. Use substitution to solve the problem.

    The width can be x.

    so it means that the length is 2x

    the equation would be

    2 (x+2x) = 24 inches

    2x+4x = 24

    6x = 24

    x=4 (this is the width, so the length will be 8 inches)

    the area will be 4 times 8 = 32
