    It's called mathematical modeling

    With mathematical modeling, scientists tried to use structures, equations, graphs, scatterplots, etc in order to explain real world-situation.

    By doing this, they hope to find a reduction toward the potential possibilities by finding which data is irrelevant for that situation.
