A walnut muffin recipe calls for 3/4 cup walnuts. Mrs Hooper wants to make 1/3 of the recipe. What fraction of a cup of walnuts will she need?

    So we start the equation with 3/4 of a cup

    if Mrs. Hooper wants to make 1/3 of the recipe

    she will multiply 3/4 by 1/3

    you multiply both the numerators (3*1)

    and multiply both of the denominators (4*3)

    giving you 3/12

    if you simplify by dividing by the Greatest common factor (3)

    you will get 1/4

    Mrs. Hooper needs 1/4 cup of almonds for her recipe
