    0
    0 (x-2) = 0

    or "distribute": 0 (x-2) = 0x - 2 (0) = 0 - 0 = 0

The variable is just some stand-in for an unknown number.

Multiplying a number by 0 always results in 0.

So no matter what number the variable can be, the variable will end up being zero when you multiply it by 0.
