2/5 (z+1) = y for z I'm not sure what to do.

    In order to solve for z, you need to isolate the variable.

    2/5 (z+1) = y

    z+1=5/2 (y)

    z+1 = (5y) / 2

    z = (5y) / 2-1 (or, if your teacher wants it this way, (5y-2) / 2)
