Tom is in an elevator that is accelerating upward at 0.55 m/s2 (squared). His mass is 75 kg. What is his weight & apparent weight?

The total force gives the total acceleration, which is known to be 0.55. The Normal force is then given by:

    N = m (a + g)

    g = 9.81

    m = 75
