A dog walks 6 m to his food bowl and then turns right and walks 8 meters to his doghouse. If the dog's final position is due east of his initial position, what is the displacement of the dog?

    10 meters. Use vectors to represent distances. His path forms a right triangle. Then use the pythagorean theorem (a²+b²=c²) to solve for the displacement.

    6²+8²=10²
