    Substituting equation 2 into 1

    P = IV

    P = V/R*V

    P = V²/R

    Given the power rating = 1/4w

    Resistor = 200ohms

    V² = PR

    V² = 200*1/4

    V² = 50

    V = √50

    V = 7.07volts

    Therefore the maximum voltage that can safely be connected across it is 7.07Volts.
