A fisherman is reeling in a fish. In 6.6 s he winds 2.8 m of fishing line onto a reel whose radius is 3.8 cm (assumed to be constant as an approximation). The line is being reeled in at a constant speed. Determine the angular speed of the reel.

    Angular speed of the reel = 11.16 rad/s

    Explanation:

    Linear speed = Radius x Angular speed

    v = rω

    Radius, r = 3.8 cm = 0.038 m

    We need to find linear velocity, v

    Length of winding = 2.8 m

    Time for winding = 6.6 s

    Length of winding = Linear velocity x Time for winding

    2.8 = v x 6.6

    v = 0.42 m/s

    Substituting in v = rω

    0.42 = 0.038 x ω

    ω = 11.16 rad/s

    Angular speed of the reel = 11.16 rad/s
