An object made of a single atomic element weighs 0.8000 N in air and 0.7295 N when completely submerged in water. Calculate the density of the object.

    Density is defined as mass per unit volume.

    Specific Gravity is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of water, or it is the ratio of the weight of a body to the weight of an equal volume of water

    Therefore we can compute the S to be

    S = W / W-W1

    W = weight of the solid in air = 0.8000N

    W1 = weight of solid in water = 0.7295N

    S = 0.8 / 0.8 - 0.7295 =

    0.8 / 0.0705 = 11.35

    Density of the object = specific gravity * density of water

    = 11.35 * 1 g/cm3 = 11.35 g/cm3
