Many people mistakenly believe that astronauts who orbit Earth are "above gravity." Calculate g for space shuttle territory, 200 km above Earth's surface. Earth's mass is 6.0 * 10 24 kg, and its radius is 6.38 * 10 6 m (6380 km). Your answer is what percentage of 9.8 m/s2?

    Value of g at a height of 200 km

    = GM / (R+h) ²

    = G is gravitational constant, M is mass of the earth, h is height

    = 6.67 x 10⁻¹¹ x 6 x 10²⁴ / [ (6380+200) ² x 10⁶]

    = 9.24 m / s²

    Percentage of g

    = (9.24 / 9.8) x100

    = 94.28 %
