Michael just bought a used car and wanted to check his mpg. His two odometer readings from one fill-up to another were 53,762 and 54,008. It took 11.8 gallons of gas to fill it up the second time. What is his mpg to the nearest gallon?

    d = 54008 - 53762 = 246 miles

    So if it takes 11.8 gallons of gas to cover 246 miles then his mile per gallon can be calculated as
