Q 1. How does friction affect the mechanical energy of a system? Q 2. A roller coaster is at the stop of a hill and rolls to the top of a lower hill. If mechanical energy is constant, then on the top of which hill is the kinetic energy from the roller coaster motion greater?

    Friction lowers (decreases) the kinetic energy which in turn decreases the mechanical energy of a system. At the top of the second hill.
