    Explanation:

    The question says that a monkey is hanging, he neither drops down to the ground nor moves up. He keeps hanging on a vertical vine.

    Since, the monkey is hanging, two forces acts on the monkey, one force is due to his weight, i. e., the gravitational force which tends to pull him downwards and the other is due to the tension developed in the string which is in upward direction.

    Thus to keep the monkey in the hanging state both the forces must counter balance each other and maintains the system 's equilibrium.

    Therefore, both the forces must be equal.
