A straight wire in a magnetic field experiences a force of 0.030 N when the current in the wire is 2.7 A. The current in the wire is changed, and the wire experiences a force of 0.047 N as a result. What is the new current?

    Given data

    force f1 = 0.030 N

    current I = 2.7 A

    force f2 = 0.047 N

    to find out

    the new current

    solution

    we know that force = flux density (B) * current (I) * length (L) ... 1

    f1 = BL * current

    so BL = 0.030 / 2.7 = 0.011111

    now put BL and f2 in equation 2 we get current

    force = flux density (B) * current (I) * length (L)

    0.047 = 0.01111 * current

    current = 0.047 / 0.01111

    current is 4.23 A
