A small car of mass 500 kg is rolls forward to the right 20 m, if a braking force is applied

backwards to slow the car, what is the work done by the braking force?

    Mass of small car (m) = 500 kg

    Distance moved (h) = 20 m

    work done by the braking force = ?

    Work is done when force is applied on an object over a distance, hence Workdone = force x distance

    (since force is the product of mass (m) and acceleration due to gravity (g), where g is 9.8m/s2)

    Thus, Workdone = mgh

    Workdone = 500 kg x 9.8m/s2 x 20 m

    = 98000J

    Thus, the work done by the braking force is 98000 joules
