A uniform solid disk of mass m = 2.91 kg and radius r = 0.200 m rotates about a fixed axis perpendicular to its face with angular frequency 6.08 rad/s. (a) calculate the magnitude of the angular momentum of the disk when the axis of rotation passes through its center of mass.

    The answer for this problem is:

    It is just a simple application of L = I w with w = 6.08 rad/m

    Case 1: Center-of-mass case

    I = 1/2 MR Sq.: giving

    L = (1/2 M R Sq) (w) = 1/2 x2.91 x0.2x 0.2 x 6.08

    =0.35 kg m Sq. Ans 1 is the magnitude for this problem.
