Why are raman spectra plotted from high to low wavenumber?

    Thinking in terms of dispersion theory, spectra in wavelength would be extremely populated in a small range, say from 3 to 15 Microns and the halfwidth of the bands would strongly increase with increasing wavelength. Most probably this was the rationale behind using log scales for the wavelength or changing over to wave numbers.

    However another (perhaps more believable rationale) is also because the wavenumber is the reverse of the energy. What I mean, is that, if the wavenumber is increasing, the energy is decreasing. With this, when we plot the wavenumber from high to low, we are, indirectly, plotting the energy from low to high.
