A caterpillar uses a force of 34 N to crawl 30 cm across a branch. If the caterpillar's power is 1.02 W, how much time does the caterpillar's journey take?

    Work done = force * distance moved

    force = 34 N, distance = 30 cm or 0.3 m

    work done = 34*0.3 = 10.2 J

    Power = work done / time = 10.2/time

    time = 10.2/1.02 = 10 s

    Work = (force) x (distance) = (34 N) x (0.3 meter) = 10.2 joules

    1.02 watts = 1.02 joules per second

    (10.2 joules) / (1.02 joule/sec) = 10 seconds.

    P. S.:

    I would not want to run into that caterpillar at night in a dark alley.

    That worm can push with 34 N of force = more than 7-1/2 pounds!
