    B. the moon. In a solar eclipse, the moon covers the sun where a small area of the earth can view the full eclipse in the Umbra or a large area can view the partial eclipse in the Penumbra. In some cases, the shadow of the moon on the earth crosses and forms an hourglass appearance which forms an area called the Antumbra. This eclipse is called an annular solar eclipse.
